My first CTC ride happened back in April. Starting out from Higher Kinnerton the 50 mile route looped around Llay, Rossett / Holt, and out to Bangor-on-Dee before heading back via Dodleston. I made it into a 65 mile ride by cycling to and from the start venue.
These rides are somewhat different to sportives with a route card rather than an way-marked route, no timing equipment and just an objective to complete in under 4 hours or under 5 hours. Its much more relaxed and much more economical too. No feed stations, just a rather excellent selection of sandwiches, quiche and cake at a village hall served with tea in a china cup on a saucer. Very civilised.
Riders I found were a bit more friendly too - happy to chat which I guess is because things overall are very much more relaxed. Did the ride in about 3hrs 40, so reasonably happy with that - will be trying some more of these rides soon.
